AIHSP Rabies Outbreak Response West Timor

Project Details

Rabies remains a major public health issue in Indonesia, with significant impacts on human health, the economy, and society. In collaboration with staff from the Australia-Indonesia Health Security Partnership (AIHSP) and government officials across West Timor, the Nossal Institute has been supporting the ongoing response to the rabies outbreak in West Timor, part of Nusa Tenggara Timur (NTT) Province, Indonesia.

Nossal is performing rapid epidemiological and economic evaluations to provide additional information to help with response planning and advocacy for stronger rabies control in West Timor.  In the longer term, Nossal and Melbourne Veterinary School researchers are developing more detailed epidemiological disease models to evaluate different outbreak response strategies and their impacts on the whole of Timor Island.
