STARS: Standing Together Against Racism in Sport
Project Details

Racism in sport at both elite and grassroots levels is all too common and has consistently limited the participation by Indigenous people and those who are culturally and racially marginalised in sport. STARS is an evidence-based, anti-racism intervention which was delivered in community sport clubs between 2021 - 2023.
We are striving to address this insidious issue by engaging the larger sports ecosystem. Building on our research partnership with Welcoming Clubs, we have recognised the need for a scalable solution to delivering anti-racism training. Therefore, we are developing a "train-the-trainer" program to equip facilitators with the knowledge, grounded by theory, and tools, to deliver active inclusion and anti-racism upstander education in community settings. We aim to build racial literacy and the confidence to stand up against racism across the sporting sector and beyond.
Get involved
Anti-racism is more than ‘not being racist’. It is rooted in action and requires taking steps to eliminate racism at all levels, individual or interpersonal, institutional and systemic.
If you would like to learn more about becoming a University of Melbourne Accredited Anti-Racism Trainer, please contact Dana Young or complete this EOI form.
We are also seeking philanthropic donors in order to support the delivery of the training into community sports clubs across Australia, if this is you, please do reach out!
