Sian Slade

Siân Slade is a UK-trained pharmacist, MPH, MBA, GAICD qualified and a PhD researcher in global health systems. With formative career years in retail and hospital pharmacy, Siân joined the pharmaceutical industry in clinical development in the 1990s and has spent the past 25 years in leadership roles (in research, development and commercialisation) based out of the UK, France, the USA and Australia. Most recent roles include leading global teams to design, develop and deliver regional and global capabilities in content, knowledge and medical information.

Siân’s interest in global health systems research was inspired by personal experience working in HIV/AIDS in the 1990s, the Master of Public Health (MPH) subject comparative health systems and working with Professors Barbara McPake and Peter Brooks for her Capstone Research in patient navigation of healthcare.

Building on the expertise gained in the MPH, Siân’s doctoral research is a country case study in England and Australia looking at the mechanisms and incentives that are enabling patients to better access and manage (navigate) their healthcare and how these mechanisms and incentives are being measured.

Siân has written in public health media for Pearls and Irritations, Croakey, the Australian Healthcare and Hospitals Association and the Consumer Health Forum. She has also written a book chapter on knowledge management based on her experiences of leading global change in this discipline in the pharmaceutical industry.

Based on running two successful webinars, “Mind the Gap: NavigatingHealth” in 2021, Siân initiated and chairs a National Navigating Health Community of Practice and Network with the Australian Disease Management Association. The Community of Practice meets bimonthly and further details can be obtained from Kaylene Ryan.
