Collaborative curriculum development for cervical cancer patient education in Indonesia
Project Details
Funded by the Australia Indonesia Institute , the Australian Indonesia Collaboration for Cervical Cancer Patient Education, AI–KPPKS (Australia Indonesia Kolaborasi untuk Pendidikan Pasien Kanker Serviks) marks a new approach to co-designing and providing timely patient education to Indonesians diagnosed with cervical cancer.
Diverse stakeholders from Indonesia and Australia will collaborate over twelve months including: physicians, cancer patients and survivors, Indonesian medical associations, civil society organizations and the Department of Health in Yogyakarta Province.
The project involves an innovative approach where both patients and doctors explore the purpose and needs of patient education, sharing their experiences and perspectives to reach agreement on what information is needed, when it is needed and how it can be communicated to different patient groups to ensure equity.
AI–KPPKS will kick off with our first stakeholder meeting in June 2025, hosted by long-time colleagues from the Centre for Reproductive Health at Universitas Gadjah Mada and the Nossal Institute for Global Health at the University of Melbourne. Indonesia-based activities will be held in Yogyakarta, including curriculum development workshops in Yogyakarta, co-design of the curriculum and education materials, peer review of these outcomes by stakeholders and then piloting of the materials in three hospitals later in 2025.
