Equity-centred analysis of PBAC vaccine funding recommendations & legislations

Project Details

This project involves a comprehensive document review to evaluate the extent to which considerations of equity are incorporated into the decision-making processes of the Pharmaceutical Benefit Advisory Committee (PBAC) in Australia when determining whether to recommend vaccines funding. We will examine PBAC’s Public Summary Documents to assess how issues of fairness, access, and affordability are integrated into their evaluations. In addition to analyzing PBAC’s internal documents, we will also examine the legislations and guidelines that provide the foundation for their work.

The results are crucial to ensure that PBAC’s decisions align with principles of health equity, ultimately aiming to improve access to vaccines and reduce disparities in healthcare outcomes. It also aims at identifying opportunities for improving the systematic and transparent incorporation of equity in HTA. This research will shed light on the interplay between policy, practice, and equity in the context of healthcare decision-making.
