Dr Justin McKinley

Research Focus: One Health economics; Agricultural economics; Environmental economics
Dr Justin McKinley is an economist with a background in agricultural, development, and environmental economics. He is using this background to develop and pursue his interest in One Health Economics.
Justin has over a decade of experience conducting research in low- and middle-income countries across the globe. He has worked on research projects in Bangladesh, Cambodia, Ghana, India, Indonesia, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Myanmar, Papua New Guinea, the Philippines, Timor-Leste, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam. He has investigated diverse research topics including agricultural production, climate-smart agriculture, climate change adaptation and mitigation, disease preparedness, livestock health and production, health systems strengthening, and One Health.
Justin provides One Health economics expertise across the Nossal Institute and the University more broadly. This includes contributing to a research project led by the Nossal Institute for Global Health called, Community Climate Health Amongst Livestock Keepers in Kyrgyzstan (CCHALKK), a research consortium led by the Peter Doherty Institute for Infection and Immunity called, Supporting Preparedness in the Asia-Pacific Region through Knowledge, Learning and Engagement (SPARKLE), and a Centres of Research Excellence led by the University of Melbourne Veterinary School called, Building Resilient One Health Communities: Preventing Zoonoses, Reducing AMR and Improving Food Security.
