Strengthening Joined-up Responses to Violence Against Women and Children in Timor-Leste
Project Details
Timor-Leste faces complex challenges in addressing gender-based violence, particularly where women and children are concerned. This Fellowship aims to deepen participants’ understanding of how to build effective, inclusive systems to address violence against women and children (VAWC) in Timor-Leste.
Nossal Institute, with funding from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade’s (DFAT) prestigious Australia Awards Fellowships program will host representatives from Timor-Leste government and civil society, including key gender-based violence service providers, who will participate as Fellows in this two-week program.
Australia Awards Fellowships aim to build networks of influence and leadership by strengthening partnerships between Australian organisations and partner organisations in the region. Fellowships target senior and mid-career officials and professionals who are in a position to advance development outcomes in priority areas and increase the institutional capacity of partner countries through their leadership.
Through workshops, site visits, and peer learning, Fellows will explore models of inclusive service provision, survivor-centred care, and coordinated responses to VAWC. The program will also foster cross-sectoral leadership and strengthens the capacity of Timorese institutions to implement sustainable, locally relevant solutions.
This Fellowship is delivered in partnership with the Australian-supported Nabilan program implemented by The Asia Foundation. Nabilan works to end violence against women and children in partnership with the Government of Timor-Leste and 11 civil society partners, spanning violence prevention and response
