Launch of the 10 Years Beyond Bushfires Report

We are pleased to announce that the 10 years Beyond Bushfires report will be launched on Tuesday 30 March 2021 by the Child and Community Wellbeing Unit, led by Professor Lisa Gibbs.

The Beyond Bushfires: Community, Resilience, and Recovery study was conducted to examine the impacts of the 2009 Victorian bushfires, including Black Saturday, on the mental health and wellbeing of community members, with a focus on how individual outcomes were influenced by social connections and community-level recovery.  The research was extended into the 10 years Beyond Bushfires study and a range of related disaster research studies.  The report recommendations apply to recovery planning for more recent and future disaster events.

The report launch will be co-hosted by University of Melbourne, Australian Red Cross and the Australian Institute of Disaster Resilience (AIDR) as part of the AIDR Recovery Matters Webinar Series from 2:00pm to 3:30pm on Tuesday 30March (Australian Eastern Daylight Time).  Key learnings of the study and recommendations for communities, schools, government, and service providers will be presented.  There will also be time to respond to questions and comments.
