IEHU endorses the Uluru Statement from the Heart

The Advisory Board and staff of the Indigenous Eye Health Unit in The University of Melbourne accepts the invitation of the Uluru Statement from the Heart and supports its implementation in full (Voice, Treaty, Truth), which includes support for a First Nations Voice to Parliament enshrined in the Australian Constitution.

The Uluru Statement from the Heart, delivered in 2017 after a national process held by, with and for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, calls for the establishment of a First Nations Voice (Voice) in the Constitution and seeks a Makarrata Commission to supervise a process of agreement-making (Treaty) between governments and First Nations and truth-telling about Australia’s history (Truth).

IEHU joins Onemda: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health and Wellbeing, the Melbourne School of Population and Global Health and The University of Melbourne in endorsing the Uluru Statement from the Heart and a ‘yes’ position at the referendum.

IEHU is also a member of the Close the Gap Campaign Alliance and Allies for Uluru Coalition.
