The problem

The adverse impact of climate change is widespread and is unequally distributed across regions and within countries showing negative effects on gender and social equity. The transition away from fossil fuels to cleaner energy, can also create opportunities for vulnerable and marginalised communities to benefit, if carefully managed. A just energy transition ensures that all segments of society, particularly vulnerable and marginalised communities, are actively involved in and benefit from the shift to cleaner and more sustainable energy practices.

The research

Working with regional partners, we planned and delivered a series of knowledge building events bringing together stakeholders in energy development to ensure that industry and communities across the South Asia region will be enabled to share the benefits of the shift to cleaner energy broadly.
Events have been run in India, and Sri Lanka. Future events are scheduled in Indonesia, Maldives, Nepal Bangladesh and Bhutan

The impact

Industry and communities across the South Asia region are being enabled to share the benefits of the shift to cleaner energy broadly. Participants have broadened their understanding of the complexities involved in energy transition and the importance of looking at outcomes in a multidimensional way
