Identifying interventions at suicide hotspots and evaluating the impact of these interventions

Internationally and in Australia, there is widespread interest in preventing suicide at public places. While some studies have shown a reduction in suicides through intervention such as the installation of barriers, helpline signage, and third-party intervention, several theoretical and methodological limitations remain.
Beginning with a scoping review of previous studies of suicides at public places, my research aims to address these limitations via studies that estimate the effect of interventions using the National Coronial Information System (NCIS), and, by doing so, close the gap between theoretical knowledge and applied practice.
