New publications: Lancet Haematology Commission on Anaemia

Our team is proud to announce the recent release of a series of articles published in The Lancet Haematology. These papers were part of a new Lancet Haematology Commission, which sought to reinvigorate progress towards addressing the global burden of anaemia.

The Commission was led by Prof Sant-Rayn Pasricha and supported by members of the  Economics of Global Health and Infectious Diseases Unit, including Dr Tori Oliver and Ms Yingying (Cyan) Wang, working under the leadership of A/Prof Natalie Carvalho.

In our paper, we provide estimates of the cost of preventing or treating anaemia in one woman over one year. These costs were estimated for six different interventions across 193 countries. In collaboration with researchers at Queensland University of Technology, Walter and Eliza Hall Institute and the University of Adelaide, our cost estimates were used in an economic evaluation to define new, value-based targets for reducing anaemia.

You can read the full Commission report here, with more detail on the economic evaluation here.
