Overview

Genomics is an area within medical science that examines the ‘genome’—the complete set of our genetic information.  Genomic technologies now revolutionise disease identification and management, with significant cost and benefit implications to patients and their families, the government, society, and the health system.

The Health Economics Unit is working closely with both the Australian and Melbourne Genomic Health Alliances to explore the health economic impacts of genomic technologies across a range of rare conditions in children and adults. This stream of research has become a key area of our specialisation.
