Preventing violence-related deaths among individuals exposed to the criminal justice system

Abstract:

Individuals exposed to the criminal justice system experience an elevated risk of dying from violence, this risk is concentrated in females and marginalised sub-groups. Surprisingly little is known about violence-related deaths in this population. This thesis aims to 1) describe the nature and predictors of violence-related deaths in this population, and 2) examine how these differ by sex and marginalised ethnic sub-groups. This thesis will generate evidence relevant to violence prevention strategies among people exposed to the criminal justice system.
