2018 MSPGH Award - Early Career Development Award for Teaching Excellence

Emma Barnard, Health Humanities and Social Sciences Unit

Judges’ Comments

Emma has been a dedicated and enthusiastic Head Tutor for MPH core subject “Qualitative Research in Public Health”. This subject has a large and diverse student cohort, and Emma has implemented new approaches to student feedback, developed course material and prepared learning plans for students with complex needs.

What is impressive about Emma's application is her innovation and emerging leadership in contributing to teaching content and teaching delivery. Emma is also highly regarded by the students particularly around providing feedback – an area that is typically weak in student experience surveys responses.

Emma clearly is a strong contributor to the School's teaching program.
