Associate Professor Aung Ko Win Awarded Fellowship of the American Gastroenterological Association
Associate Professor Aung Ko Win, of our Centre for Epidemiology and Biostatistics, has been named Fellow of the American Gastroenterological Association (AGA), a medical society dedicated to disorders of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract.
Through the fellowship program, AGA honors superior professional achievement in clinical private or academic practice and in basic or clinical research. Fellowships are awarded to AGA members whose accomplishments and contributions demonstrate personal commitment to the field of gastroenterology.
Associate Professor Win’s work aims to reduce population cancer burden – particularly in colorectal cancer – through precision prevention and early detection.
“It is a great honour for me to receive this fellowship from the American Gastrointestinal Association. This fellowship will provide me and our research group with greater links to the world-leading professional organisation and leaders in the gastroenterology field, in the United States and internationally.”
Associate Professor Win is a Principal Research Fellow and Deputy Head of the Colorectal Cancer Unit, Centre for Epidemiology and Biostatistics in the Melbourne School of Population and Global Health, and Deputy Lead of Precision Prevention and Early Detection at the University of Melbourne Centre for Cancer Research, based in the Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre. He also has an honorary research appointment in Genetic Medicine, Royal Melbourne Hospital.
AGA Institute President, Hashem B. El-Serag, said “The AGA Fellowship program acknowledges AGA members with superior professional achievement in the field of gastroenterology and hepatology with fellowship within our organization. AGA is proud to announce the 2020 inductees who have been recognized by their peers and community as being at the forefront of our field.”
The AGA has grown to include 16,000 members from around the globe who are involved in all aspects of the science, practice, and advancement of gastroenterology.
