Community energy resilience pilot project - Maldives

Project Details

Three row of solar panel on gradd with palm trees in the backgrounds and a blue sky

The community energy resilience pilot project, to be implemented on a small outer island, will focus on energy, linked to climate and economic resilience. Our project will analyse community vulnerability, focusing on gender equality and social inclusion (GESI).

The pilot will be a sub-project under the Preparing Outer Islands for Sustainable Energy Development (POISED) Project, which improves the distribution network through the installation of hybrid renewable energy systems. We will take into consideration the impacts of the Covid-19 health pandemic on the outer islands and draw on the recent study prepared for the Asian Development Bank on 'Strengthening Urban Resilience: Integrating Inclusive Infrastructure, Energy and Health systems'.

We will also be drawing from the lessons of the Dhiffushi Solar Ice project to help community development and providing project development support for solar PV based icemaking plants that are being planned for four more outer islands.
