Promoting healthy adolescent romantic relationships in the Global South

Project Details

This project focuses on adolescent romantic relationships in the Global South, where most of the world’s adolescents live. Adolescents in the Global South face unique challenges in relationships due to gender roles, familial expectations, income inequality, and limited access to education and technology. Unhealthy relationships, including intimate partner violence, are common, impacting health and wellbeing. However, foundational research on the status, quality, and satisfaction of adolescent romantic relationships in the Global South is lacking.

The project aims to fill these gaps by conducting a scoping review of existing research and developing a new scale to measure relationship status and quality in adolescent romantic relationships. The project will also facilitate knowledge exchange events with experts to refine the scale and identify research priorities, aiming to improve understanding and intervention efforts for adolescent relationships in the Global South.
