A national survey of community attitudes to prevention, promotion and wellbeing

Project Details

The aim of the project is to understand Australian adults' attitudes towards prevention of depression and anxiety and their intentions to take actions for selective prevention, indicated prevention and treatment of depression and anxiety. This is based on the need to address gaps in our understanding of public knowledge of and attitudes towards prevention of mental health problems. The project involves two surveys:

  1. a general population survey of over 6000 Australians aged 16+. Participants will be recruited through the Life in Australia panel administered by The Social Research Centre.
  2. a survey of experts in the area of prevention of mental health problems (including health professionals, researchers, policy makers) recruited through peak bodies and other organisations with members with relevant expertise (as well as snowball sampling).

Findings will assist key stakeholders such as governments and mental health organisations to support population approaches to prevention.
