Barriers and facilitators to help-seeking in men bereaved by suicide

Project Details

Despite the devastating impact of suicide on men, suicide-bereaved men hardly use information resources and formal support from grief and mental health professionals, and little is known of their coping and help-seeking behaviour. The Centre for Mental Health and Community Wellbeing was commissioned by StanDy Support After Suicide to conduct a study specifically on men bereaved by suicide.

There are three objectives for this study:

  1. To examine the support needs, and help-seeking expectations and experiences of men bereaved by suicide;
  2. To ascertain barriers and facilitators to help-seeking;
  3. To inform best practice in supporting this population.
