Feasibility of high daily dose short course primaquine after G6PD testing for the radical cure of Plasmodium vivax malaria
Project Details
This study will determine the feasibility and cost-effectiveness of introducing a revised case management package to facilitate well tolerated and effective radical cure of patients with vivax malaria at 10 public health care clinics in Indonesia and Papua New Guinea. The revised case management package has been prioritised and endorsed by the Ministry of Health and will include: 1) semi-quantitative point-of-care glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) activity assessment prior to treatment with primaquine, 2) prescription of high dose (7mg/kg body weight total) primaquine over 7 (PQ7) 14 (PQ14) days or 8 weeks (PQ8W), to all eligible patients presenting with P. vivax malaria.
