National consensus workshop on embedding smoking cessation into an Australian lung cancer screening program

Project Details

In July 2023, a national consensus workshop bought together 38 lung cancer and tobacco control/ smoking cessation experts from every Australian State and Territory to achieve consensus on the most effective way to embed smoking cessation within the newly-announced National Lung Cancer Screening Program.

Workshop participants were required to work through a series of consensus-building activities using the Nominal Group Technique. A key outcome of the workshop was a list of 12 priority actions for embedding smoking cessation in lung cancer screening across defined areas including delivery (of the program), policy, equity and research.
