Commercial tobacco use remains a major contributor to avoidable disease burden in Australia. The Australian Government has proposed a target to reach <5% daily smoking rates by 2030 – a ‘tobacco endgame’. This thesis will utilise simulation modelling to determine: what are the optimal policies to reach a tobacco endgame in Australia, and reduce tobacco-related health harm and costs for the population? Specific considerations include inequity in smoking rates and resulting harm by socioeconomic status and remoteness, and the potential influence of future vaping trends on the endgame goal.
