Given the global rise in mental illnesses, there is a need to develop effective interventions for management. Mindfulness practice has been shown to reduce depression and anxiety; however, little is known regarding acceptability and adherence in young adults, or the efficacy of mindfulness in reducing other mental health outcomes.  My PhD research aims to assess trends in mindfulness practice, pre and during COVID pandemic, and its efficacy for mental health management in young adults.

Bio: Xirun holds a MBBS from Kunming University of Science and Technology (China) and a Master of Science (Epidemiology) from The University of Melbourne.  Xirun’s Masters research focused on the practice of mindfulness and stress-reducing activities on health outcomes in people with multiple sclerosis.  He then worked as a clinical trial associate in a pharmaceutical company in China to assess the safety and effectiveness of Chinese patent medicine. His PhD research will focus on the use and efficacy of mindfulness for the management of mental health.
