Current research tends to examine the health needs of Aboriginal children or involvement with child protection services (CPS), but little looks at these topics in unison. Using a linkage of administrative datasets, my thesis explores the health of Aboriginal children born in Western Australia and how their needs differ according to child protection involvement. Informed by findings from qualitative research and a community reference group, I assessed:
- Trends in contacts with CPS over time and within family groups
- The prevalence of mental and neurodevelopmental condition
- Rates of potentially preventable hospitalisations
