Well integrated human papillomavirus (HPV) immunisation programmes, access to highly sensitive cervical screening programs, and timely access to high-quality treatment have the potential to eliminate cervical cancer globally. Despite evidence that highlights deficiencies in the implementation of primary, and secondary prevention strategies for cervical cancer in Japan, morbidity, and mortality due to cervical cancer continues to increase. This thesis aimed to examine the genotype prevalence of vaccine preventable and screening detectable HPV, evaluate diagnostic and treatment practices relating to the uterine cervix using individual level insurance data, and provide a comparative cost-effectiveness evaluation of alternate screening strategies in Japan using an age-specific Markov microsimulation model of HPV vaccination and cervical screening.
