Professor Sant-Rayn Pasricha appointed Head of the Melbourne School of Population and Global Health

Professor Sant-Rayn Pasricha, clinical haematologist and internationally recognised anaemia researcher, has been appointed as the new Head of the Melbourne School of Population and Global Health, after an extensive global search and selection process.

“I’m tremendously excited about the opportunity to lead the Melbourne School of Population and Global Health and support its mission to develop a healthier, more equitable world through research, teaching and advocacy,” said Professor Pasricha.

Professor Pasricha leads the world’s most preeminent program on global anaemia control; recently leading the team at WEHI to influence World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines, changing the way anaemia is diagnosed worldwide. He also leads the WHO Collaborating Centre for Anaemia Detection and Control, and his work has been supported by the NHMRC and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. In 2023 he was made a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Health and Medical Sciences (AAHMS).

Professor Pasricha is currently Acting Deputy Director at WEHI, where he has also been Division Head of Population Health and Immunity since 2019. In addition to his roles at WEHI, he is a haematologist at the Royal Melbourne Hospital and the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre.

A University of Melbourne alum, MBBS(Hons) 2001, MPH 2007 and PhD 2012, Professor Pasricha also undertook five-years postdoctoral training in molecular biology at the Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine in Oxford, UK (2012-2017).

Professor Pasricha will join the Faculty of Medicine Dentistry and Health Sciences in January 2025.
