National Close the Gap Campaign Report 2024
The Indigenous Eye Health Unit is proud to support and share the '2024 Close the Gap Campaign Report - Voyage to Voice, Treaty, Truth and Beyond'.
The fifteenth annual Close the Gap report was launched on Wednesday 20 March at Parliament House in Canberra. The report recognises the tremendous work being undertaken to progress health equity and justice - a fundamental goal of the Uluru Statement from the Heart.
The 2024 report provides reflection on the past year and encourages Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community leaders, Close the Gap Campaign members, and Parliamentarians to refocus on the tasks ahead in pursuit of wellbeing, sovereignty, and self-determination.
The report’s sub-themes: Progressing Voice, Treaty, Truth; Leadership and Governance; and Building our Economies, affirm the centrality of self-determination in the pursuit of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander recognition, rights, justice, and equity.
Campaign Co-Chair, and IEHU Advisory Board deputy chair, Karl Briscoe said: “Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples need representation at the highest levels of government. They need genuine shared agreement making, bipartisanship, unity, and a shared collective vision, driven by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives and knowledges, to address the gaps in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people’s life outcomes. Because we know this is how we close the gap.”

The report launch coincides with National Close the Gap Day, celebrated on Thursday 21 March.
For more than a decade now, Australians from every corner of the country, in schools, businesses and community groups, have shown their support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health equity by marking National Close the Gap Day on the third Thursday in March each year.
Every National Close the Gap Day, we have an opportunity to send our governments a clear message that Australians value health equality as a fundamental right for all.
