ICTC features Milpa

The ICTC International Coalition for Trachoma Control published a case study provided by Minum Barreng to mark the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples on 9 August 2026.
The Minum Barreng case study was one of three new case studies published to accompany the ICTC resource ‘Delivering trachoma interventions to special populations: A toolkit for program managers’.
Minum Barreng’s case study describes successful community-led health promotion for trachoma elimination through Milpa’s ‘Clean Faces, Strong Eyes’ and ‘Six steps to stop germs’ campaigns. The blog highlights Australia’s recent validation from the World Health Organisation that trachoma has been eliminated in Australia as a public health problem (April 2026) and emphasises the need for ongoing health promotion to reduce the risk of recrudescence.
Special thanks to Lesley Martin for her assistance with the ICTC article, and the powerful quotes provided. The blog was written by Emma Stanford, Makkaillah Ridgeway, Shaun Tatipata and Mitchell Anjou from Minum Barreng.
