Additional ENEA resources support eye checks in the 715 Health Check

Minum Barreng: Indigenous Eye Health Unit has released two new health promotion resources, a clinic poster and community brochure, to support eye checks as part of the 715 Health Check. These resources build on the ‘Your Eyes and the 715 Health Check’ flipchart launched in August 2025 as part of the Eyecare Now, Eyecare Always (ENEA) campaign.

Together, these resources aim to strengthen awareness of the importance of regular eye checks and support early detection and prevention of vision loss among Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

The 715 Health Check provides an important opportunity to include a basic eye check as part of routine primary health care. While eye checks are a key component of the health assessment, they are not always consistently included.

The new resources focus on the four main eye conditions that contribute to vision loss:

  • Refractive error
  • Cataract
  • Diabetic retinopathy
  • Trachoma/ trichiasis

Your Eyes and 715 Health Check – Poster

This clinic poster supports 715 Health Checks by prompting regular eye checks as part of routine care. It highlights the four main eye conditions and reinforces simple, clear messages to support early detection and prevention of vision loss.

Designed for use in clinics and waiting areas, the poster helps start conversations between patients, Aboriginal Health Workers/Practitioners and primary care staff about keeping eyes healthy and strong at every age.

Your Eyes and 715 Health Check – Brochure

This community brochure supports Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to understand the importance of regular eye checks and how they can be part of the preventative annual 715 Health Check.
It explains what happens during an eye check, why eye checks are important, and simple steps to keep eyes healthy. The brochure is designed to support conversations in clinics and community settings.

These resources complement the existing 'Your Eyes and 715 Health Check' flipchart, which provides a practical yarning tool for Aboriginal Health Workers/Practitioners and primary care staff to support discussions about eye health, common eye conditions, and the inclusion of eye checks in the 715 Health Check.

Since its release in August 2025, the flipchart has been widely taken up across every state and territory, with more than 500 copies distributed in the first three months, primarily through Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations (ACCHOs). This strong early uptake highlights the demand for practical tools that support the integration of eye health into routine care.

Developed with input from Aboriginal Health Workers/Practitioners, community members and primary care providers, the resources align with the RACGP and NACCHO National Guide to Preventive Healthcare for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People and support strong eyes all through life, for kids, adults and Elders.
