About the Event

The Indigenous Data Network invites you to join us in person for the Indigenous Data Governance Masterclass at the University of Melbourne, Naarm/Melbourne.Kristen Smith and Andrea Clarke presenting at ARDC Summer school in Ballarat

This free one day Masterclass is offered as an extension of the Australian Research Data Commons IDG Masterclass held in June 2026. Given the strong demand for that event, this second masterclass broadens participation and engagement with Indigenous Data Governance practice across sectors.

The Masterclass will equip participants with the knowledge and tools to ethically manage Indigenous data, respecting the cultural protocols and sovereignty of Indigenous communities.

The day will bring together keynote presentations, panel discussions, and practical sessions on data capability building, offering a well-rounded grounding in Indigenous Data Governance practice.

Who should attend?

The The IDG Masterclass 2026 is developed to broaden engagement across disciplines, sectors and communities.

We actively encourage participation from people who work with Indigenous data, including those from:

  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and organisations
  • Universities, researchers and other research organisations
  • The GLAM sector, including galleries, libraries, archives and museums
  • Commonwealth, state, territory and local governments
