Successful Grants and Philanthropic Funding

NHMRC Grant – Harm to Healing

Congratulations to Laureate Professor Marcia Langton AO and the research team on securing funding through the NHMRC Targeted Call for Research: Addressing Violence for Safer Families and Communities.

The project, Harm to Healing: Strength-Based Approaches to Family Violence for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples, has been awarded $5,000,000.

This First Nations-led, multidisciplinary project will work with a large cohort of community partners across four jurisdictions to improve understanding of family violence and child removals. It builds on extensive research and frontline work with women and children to support culturally grounded approaches to reducing family violence.

Metal Manufactures Pty Limited Philanthropic Funding

Following the longstanding and successful partnership between Metal Manufactures Pty Limited (MM P/L) and the Indigenous Eye Health Unit in addressing trachoma in remote communities, Dame Carol Grigor DBE and MM P/L have generously committed $2,000,000 to Onemda for the Closing the Gap for Diabetes in Indigenous Communities initiative.

This work builds on the success of Indigenous Eye Health by expanding efforts into diabetes prevention and management, particularly in remote communities. I would like to sincerely acknowledge the Indigenous Eye Health Unit for their significant contributions in this area, and Professor Hugh Taylor for his strong advocacy and leadership during consultations with MM P/L.
