Associate Professor David Gallant's role as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Curriculum Development Lead is funded through the Melbourne School of Health Sciences. David will be based with Onemda staff.

The role is responsible for leading the review, development, implementation, and evaluation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health and Cultural Safety curriculum across the Melbourne School of Health Sciences (MSHS) and the Melbourne School of Population and Global Health (MSPGH).

David is a proud Aboriginal man from the Northwest of Tasmania and has been at the University of Melbourne in the Department of Social Work since 2015, serving in a range of research and teaching capacities. His research expertise spans two key areas: family violence and custodial environments, with significant contributions to academic discourse on men’s behaviour change programs and the role of sport and recreation in prison settings.

Beyond his academic work, David has a strong commitment to Indigenous health and wellbeing. He is currently a board member of First Peoples Health and Wellbeing and remains an active contributor to Indigenous advisory groups within MDHS and MSHS, as well as the National Community Attitudes Survey (NCAS).
