The problem

Families of children with disabilities face additional financial and non-financial costs compared to families without children with disability. These additional costs result in lower standards of living, increased hardship, and forgone opportunities. Social protection systems can mitigate these risks.

The research

With Oxford Policy Management and Life Haven Centre for Independent Living, a nationally representative survey and qualitative assessment of the standard of living and costs of households with children with disability compared to households without children with disability

The impact

Informed Philippine Development Plan 2023-2028 and inclusion of cash grants and allowances for people with disability.

Congress of the Philippines has used findings to inform legislative discussions on social protection for people with disability.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development, Government of the Philippines has used findings to explore and prioritise social protection options to offset the costs experienced by families of children with disability and pilot a non-means tested allowance for families of children with disability.
