Regional Roadmap for Triple EMTCT in Asia and the Pacific Region

Families across the Asia-Pacific region remain disproportionately affected by HIV, Hepatitis B, and syphilis, especially through mother-to-child transmission (MTCT), which poses devastating risks to newborns. With just five years left to meet the SDGs, urgent investment in robust policies and targeted programs is essential. This includes expanding antenatal screening, ensuring timely treatment and care for women and families diagnosed with any of the three infections, promoting safe delivery and infant feeding practices, and providing hepatitis B vaccination and HIV prophylaxis.

The Nossal Institute, in collaboration with regional and country UNICEF, WHO, and UNAIDS offices, led the development of a Regional Roadmap for the Triple Elimination of MTCT of HIV, HBV and syphilis by 2030.

Developed collaboratively with stakeholders from 21 countries, this roadmap tracks countries’ progress and offers practical, tailored guidance to support them in accelerating their efforts. At its core, the roadmap outlines seven strategic priorities, each offering clear, actionable steps for immediate, medium-term, and long-term implementation leading up to 2030. It concludes with concrete recommendations for regional partners to support the national efforts. Above all, the roadmap promotes country ownership and sustained local commitment to reaching the triple elimination goal.

A global launch occurred in April 2025, during which the Nossal team showcased regional progress, strategic priorities, and operational guidance for triple EMTCT. Over 100 participants from 21 countries attended the launch, including government, UN and World Bank representatives, academics, community members, and women living with HIV. Following the launch, countries have begun aligning their strategies with the roadmap, marking a critical step towards the 2030 triple elimination goal.
