Strengthening Health Systems

We are working with the Health Systems Transformation Platform (HSTP) India to develop and implement the India Health Policy Systems & Research (HPSR) Fellowship program.

A group of yound indian boyus in school uniform walking down a village streetThe fellowship is aimed at building capacities of mid-career Indian public health professionals to conduct high quality HPSR. The first cohort from all over India, began in January 2021. Despite a global pandemic, the inaugural 20 fellows have excelled and 18 out of the 20 have successfully completed the first year of the program; they are now in the process of implementing their HPSR projects. The fellowship is anchored at HSTP India, and has been developed and is being implemented as a partnership between Institute of Public Health Bengaluru, Achutha Menon Centre for Health Systems Studies, India Health Systems Collaborative, The George Institute of Global Health - India, Nossal Institute of Global Health, Institute of Tropical Medicine Antwerp, &, and the WHO Alliance for Health Systems and Policy Research.

The Nossal team is led by Associate Professor Sumit Kane; Prof. Ajay Mahal, Prof. Barbara McPake, and Ms. Prarthna Dayal have been actively involved throughout. Dr. Greg Armstrong is also involved in the mentoring of one of the fellows.
