Australia's Chief Medical Officer provides update on HTLV-1

On 2 November, Global Health Alliance Melbourne (GLHAM) hosted Dr Brendan Murphy, Australia’s Chief Medical Officer, at a member-only HTLV-1 QandA to give interested GLHAM member organisations an update on Australia’s response to HTLV-1.

GLHAM’s response to the HTLV-1 epidemic involved amplifying the impact of the letter to the WHO General Assembly through a strategic advocacy and media campaign. GLHAM also created an online document library (http://glham.org/flagship-programs/indigenous-health-and-indigeneity/) that includes the latest updates on HTLV-1. Following this campaign, the Federal Government announced an $8.8million Taskforce to design a response to HTLV-1.
