The “Diasporas in Action: Working together for peace, development and humanitarian response” Conference will be held at the University of Melbourne from the 26th-27th of September 2016 and is convened by the Diaspora Learning Network, an initiative of Diaspora Action Australia and the University of Melbourne. The University’s involvement includes various departments and groups, such as the Melbourne Refugee Studies Program (MRSP). Other partner organisations include the Australian Council for International Development (ACFID), the Refugee Council of Australia (RCOA), the Research for Development Impact Network (RDIN), the Australian Red Cross, Oxfam Australia and the Afghan Australian Relief and Development Organisation.

"Diasporas in Action" is the premier forum to explore the power of diasporas in Australia and the region. Participants will learn how to amplify diaspora voices on the global stage in order to attract  key leaders and influential voices in the humanitarian network. The program will include speakers and participants from the Australian community, international diaspora organisations, government officials, policy makers and some of the world’s most experienced NGOs.

This conference will provide a unique opportunity for researchers, practitioners, students, policy makers and the broader civil society to share insights, good practice and lessons learned. This discussion promises to benefit the Australian development and humanitarian response and contribute to an international dialogue through the experiences of diasporas based in Australia and the region.

The event will be held from the 26th to the 27th of September at the University of Melbourne Campus. For more information about the conference, including registration, visit the conference website.
