About Us
The Mental Health Epidemiology Unit leads research on the design and analysis of studies of mental health outcomes, including studies of suicide and self-harm. We lead projects on:
Real-time monitoring of suicide and self-harm
In collaboration with the Coroners Court of Victoria and the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, we are developing tools to monitor suicide and self-harm in real time. This research is funded by the National Health and Medical Research Council.
Preventing rail suicide
We undertake research to understand the epidemiology of rail suicide, and to identify points where interventions can be deployed. This research is funded by Suicide Prevention Australia and is conducted in collaboration with the TrackSAFE foundation.
Data synthesis
Meta-analysis has become an important tool for summarising the available evidence. We lead data synthesis studies in suicide prevention on a range of topics. We have contributed to the development of new meta-analysis methodology, for example tools for meta-analysing rare events.
