The Asia Pacific Observatory on Health Systems and Policies (APO) has approved the formation of a new consortium led by A/Prof Natalie Carvalho and PhD student Marie-Anne Boujaoude from the Global Health and Infectious Diseases Unit, Centre for Health Policy, along with Prof Jodie McVernon from the Doherty Institute at the University of Melbourne.

This consortium was formed through collaboration among members of the EquitAP-HTA network, which brings together researchers, policymakers, and institutions across the Asia Pacific region to advance equity in Health Technology Assessment (HTA). The network aims to create a collaborative platform to address regional disparities, share best practices, and integrate equity considerations into HTA processes to inform policy and decision-making.

With the University of Melbourne, five esteemed institutions are part of this consortium:

  1. Health Intervention and Technology Assessment Program Foundation (HITAP), Thailand
  2. Keio University Keio Global Research Institute, Japan
  3. Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Education and Research, Puducherry, India
  4. Tianjin University School of Pharmaceutical Science and Technology, China
  5. National University of Singapore, Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health, Singapore

The consortium will focus on the theme of "Tackling inequities in health due to gender, social inequities, being uncounted, or unreached," with a particular emphasis on the use of Health Technology Assessment (HTA) to identify and address these health disparities.

This partnership will play a key role in advancing research on health inequities across the Asia Pacific region, using HTA to drive more equitable health policies and outcomes.
