Yingying (Cyan) Wang awarded grants in AI in Public Health Competition Stage 1 and Stage 2

We are excited to announce that Ms. Yingying (Cyan) Wang, a Research Fellow at Melbourne Health Economics, has been awarded the 2024 Artificial Intelligence in Public Health Competition Stage 1 Grant and wins 1st prize in Stage 2 from the Melbourne School of Population and Global Health (MSPGH). This prestigious grant supports innovative projects that apply AI tools to advance public health research and practice.

Cyan’s project, titled "Leveraging Natural Language Processing (NLP)/Artificial Intelligence (AI) for Policy Documents Review," aims to revolutionize how information is extracted from policy documents. Her research focuses on automating the review of Public Summary Documents published by the Pharmaceutical Benefits Advisory Committee (PBAC). This work will investigate whether NLP/AI techniques can accurately extract key information for decision-making. See the inforgraphic for more details.
The project demonstrates significant potential for transforming how policy data is reviewed, speeding up review process and reducing manual review workload. Cyan’s work will not only benefit public health policy research in Australia but also lay the foundation for similar approaches globally.

Congratulations to Cyan for this outstanding achievement!
