Liam has recently started his PhD project entitled ‘The Health Economics of Modern Technologies for Bone Reconstruction’ under the primary supervision of A/Prof An Tran-Duy and co-supervision of Prof Kim Dalziel and A/Prof Claudia Di Bella. His PhD project involves a critical appraisal of existing evidence and generation of new evidence on the cost-effectiveness of advanced technologies in orthopaedic surgery, with a special focus on the use of 3D-printed implants. His PhD is financially supported by an Australian Government Research Training Program Scholarship.

Liam completed his Bachelor of Science in 2012 at the University of Melbourne and then took time away from study to pursue a sporting career before coming back to complete his Master of Public in 2019. Liam has been part of Melbourne Health Economics (known previously as the Health Economics Unit) for five years, during which he completed his Doctor of Medicine at the University of Melbourne (graduating in 2023). With a passion for orthopaedic surgery, he won the Australian Orthopaedic Association Joint University Scholarship in 2021 and the Neil Bromberger Medal for Orthopaedic Surgery in 2023. Liam now works as a full-time medical doctor at St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne whilst he is conducting his PhD part-time within the Health Economics and Simulation Modelling for Chronic Disease Unit at the Melbourne School of Population and Global Health.
