Title: Investigating factors and barriers to healthcare access and utilisation in older culturally and linguistically diverse Australians.

Supervisors: Prof. Jeromey Temple (Demography and Ageing Unit, Centre for Health Policy, Melbourne School of Population and Global Health); Prof. Bianca Brijnath (National Ageing Research Institute); Prof. Dina LoGiudice (Aged Care Medicine-Royal Melbourne Hospital)

Abstract: Older Australians from culturally and linguistically diverse (CaLD) backgrounds face unique and multifaceted barriers to primary healthcare, and often rely on their family for support in navigating healthcare. However, the socio-demographic factors that are associated with healthcare access and utilisation are unmeasured, making it difficult to evaluate and plan healthcare policy and practice for this ageing cohort. This quantitative thesis analyses nationally representative datasets to explore factors associated with primary healthcare in older CaLD Australians living in the community

Bio: Kerry is a PhD candidate within the Centre for Health Policy, Melbourne School of Population and Global Health, and a Research Fellow at the National Ageing Research Institute (NARI). Kerry’s main research focus at NARI involves improving the lives of older people, including older people from CaLD backgrounds.
