Title: Economic analysis of next-generation sequencing for blood cancers: informing policy decision-making towards reimbursement
Supervisors: Prof. Maarten IJzerman, A/Prof. David Westerman & Dr. Koen Degeling
Abstract: NGS technologies offer extensive genomic analysis potential, with the ability to improve health outcomes for patients with blood cancers and optimise healthcare resource usage. However, the limited availability of NGS as a clinical genomic test is a challenge, mainly due to coverage and reimbursement barriers. Supporting policymakers with the best available information regarding the health economic evidence of NGS for the clinical management of blood cancers can assist with overcoming these regulatory hurdles. However, this health economic evidence is limited, and concerns about cost and impact on healthcare systems persist.
This PhD research aimed to bridge the current evidence gap by evaluating the health economic impact of NGS technologies for the management of blood cancers. Additionally, it aimed to explore analytical approaches for evaluating the value of these technologies for patients with blood cancer in Australia.
