Welcome to Heather Anderson

We would like to warmly welcome Heather Anderson to Melbourne Health Economics.
Heather commenced in January 2024 as a PhD candidate with the Child Health Economics Unit, under the supervision of Dr Li Huang and Prof Kim Dalziel. Her research is focused on conducting health economics analyses alongside the Strengthening Care for Children trials, where the trials feature a GP paediatrician co-consultation model of care for urban and rural children.
Heather holds a Bachelor of Nursing and Bachelor of Midwifery from Deakin University, and a Master of Public Health from the University of Melbourne, where she studied Health Economics. Her capstone research project was a qualitative descriptive study of Health Care utilisation of Australian Women during pregnancy using data from the Longitudinal Study of Australian Children (LSAC) and linked Medicare data.
Prior to her PhD, Heather accumulated almost 15 years of experience working in Women’s and Children’s health. She has worked as a Research Assistant/ Research Midwife at the Child Health Research Unit, Barwon Health, across various projects including the Barwon Infant Study (BIS), and the Environmental Determinants of Islet Autoimmunity (ENDIA) study. She has also worked clinically as a Registered Nurse and Clinical Midwife Consultant, with a specialisation in infant feeding as an International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant.
In addition to PhD work, Heather is a clinical educator and teacher at the School of Nursing, Midwifery and Paramedicine at Australian Catholic University.
