Strengthening research capacity in health economic evaluation in Fiji

The Economics of Global Health and Infectious Diseases Unit welcomed guests from the Ministry of Health and Medical Services Fiji and the Colonial War Memorial hospital, Sr Litiana Volavola, Dr. Laila Sauduadua, and Mr. Petueli Veremalumu from 21 – 25 October 2024.

The visit started with a one-day work-in-progress session and manuscript writing workshop led by PhD candidate Mr. Fulgence Niyibitegeka and A/Prof Natalie Carvalho.   The workshop has been a great opportunity for the team to work together on progressing their pneumococcal disease cost of illness analysis and vaccination program costing analysis, as part of a current DFAT-funded project.

The Fiji-based partners also attended two Melbourne Health Economics short courses: Introduction to Cost Effectiveness Analysis in Health (22 October 2024) and Practical Methods for Health Economic Evaluation (23 – 25th October 2024) at Parkville Campus, University of Melbourne.

This in-person, hands-on training has equipped participants with practical skills and knowledge in economic evaluation, cost-effectiveness analysis, and other key areas of health economics.
