A patchwork of supports

Housing (including crisis accommodation) is one piece in a patchwork of supports and resources young people need to build safer futures, that are often place-based. Safe housing should facilitate continued connection with these other supports.
Children and young people use intersecting supports to build safer futures. Children and young people’s lives are connected to those of the people they love, including siblings, who can provide crucial support. Young people may have caring responsibilities for siblings, children, or others. These responsibilities can be an important source of meaning. Access to transportation, and distance or proximity to key supports and resources, shapes children and young people’s possibilities for healing.

Key strategies and supports can include: Spending time in nature or travelling; siblings, friends, or pets; making art; writing; or mental health services.
