Mussab Fagery awarded 2022 Margaret and Irene Stewardson Fund Scholarship
Congratulations to Mussab Fagery, a student with Professor Maarten IJzerman’s Cancer Health Services Research group, who has been awarded the 2022 Margaret and Irene Stewardson scholarship.
The competitive scholarship supports graduate researchers with demonstrated excellence in cancer research, with a supervisor based at the University of Melbourne Centre for Cancer Research.
Mussab joined the group in December 2021, and said the scholarship will support him to achieve his educational goals and provide space for him to explore additional educational opportunities.
His PhD project will be addressing the translation gap of complex genomic testing (through liquid biopsy) into cancer health services.
“The project will support both identification and prioritisation of the value proposition for using liquid biopsies in cancer management,” he said.
“Recently, clinical research directed toward the use of liquid biopsy as an alternative to tissue biopsy, showed significant promise in several clinical applications such as early detection and screening, adjuvant therapy guidance, as well as treatment selection and monitoring.”
“I am sincerely honoured to have been selected as the recipient of this scholarship, and I would like to give a special thanks to the scholarship providers for their generosity and support.”
