What are child co-researchers' perspectives when scaling up Participatory Action Research?

Abstract:

Children are increasingly being recognized as agents of change and global citizens who can make important contributions to research about issues affecting them. From this perspective, children can provide a valuable insider's perspective into their worlds that can help improve health policies and services. Participatory Action Research with Children (CPAR) can provide a rights-based approach to carrying out research with this aim. However, there is little known about child co-researchers' perspectives and experiences of participating in large scale studies at the national, regional or international levels. This thesis explores children's understandings of what is meaningful participation for them in large scale CPAR projects and what are their expectations regarding their role as co-researchers.
