Australian women need a Gender Equal Budget and COVID19 Recovery

“An Australian Budget which is not gender equal, is setting the country to fail"

Gender Equity Victoria has written to the Treasurer Josh Frydenberg calling the Federal Government to deliver a gender equal recovery from COVID19 in tomorrow’s budget.

Living in the middle of Australia’s largest public health crisis, the health, economic and social inequalities for Australian women have been further exposed.  The Federal Government has a chance to build back better and put gender equality at the centre of Budget 20/21.Tanja Kovac, CEO of GEN VIC, says:

“An Australian Budget which is not gender equal, is setting the country to fail. If there are insufficient innovations, incentives, job creation and investment in Australian women workers, entrepreneurs and businesses, you will hold back over 52% of the country’s potential. You can’t afford to do that.”

This call for action runs off the back of GEN VIC’s joint statement calling for State and Federal Governments to recognise the gendered impacts of COVID-19 signed by 106 Australian organisations commitment to a gender equal recovery.
